This is me
Welcome

As a photographer, I am led by an approach that is influenced by my study and practice of mindfulness.

It introduces a fresh way of thinking about photography as a spiritual practice, to cultivate the relationship with the mystical in our lives by seeing the world through the eyes of the heart.

Experiencing presence this way invokes a flow state where creativity intersects with presence giving rise to what I called mindful photography.

The kind of works that inspire me most are simple everyday things shown in a fresh perspective.

Seeing things freshly is a deep joyful experience and a healer for the heart.

In whatever one does, there must be a relationship between the eye and the heart. With the one eye that is closed, one looks within. With the eye that is open, one looks without.

What is mindful photography?
Many years ago, I started to learn meditation and subsequently attended a mindfulness retreat. At about the same time, I came across materials on contemplative and mindful photography. As I explored deeper into the connection, it appeared to me that photography is a physical manifestation of mindfulness, in that it is about relating to the present moment.

When I compose a picture through the eye of my camera, it is a calming process where distractions melt into the background and I become fully present in the here and now. The reconnection of body, thoughts and feelings flows through my every cell.

In my view, photography is a perfect mindful pursuit as it combines creativity and being aware in our surroundings.

People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child – our own two eyes. All is a miracle.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh
